Auto Shipping to Puerto Rico can be complicated
Here at SSR Logistics we try to make the move as uneventful as possible, here is what you will need to set up an Auto Shipment to San Juan.
First the Booking Information
- Shipper’s complete name, physical address, phone, and email.
- Consignee’s complete name as well as the physical address, phone, and email.
- Vehicle’s value, year, make, model, including the complete VIN #.
- Sail date from Jacksonville to SJU.
- EIN # (Obtain at http://www.irs.gov.).
Second the Paperwork needed
- Copy of Title, front and back (or authorization from the Financial Institution, if financed).
- Clear enlarged copy of the owners Driver’s License, and if owner is not present to deliver, a signed Letter of Authorization must be granted to the party making the shipping arrangements.
Third Dropping off your vehicle, or having SSR Deliver to the port.
- Payment: Prepay before dropping off your vehicle.
- Drop Window: Drop your vehicle no earlier than 7 calendar days prior to sailing, but before the cut off.
- Drop Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-12:00PM, 1:30PM-4:00PM.
- TWIC Escort (JAX Port Only): TWIC credentials are required for all public access to the port of Jacksonville facilities. These charges ($75 per hour and up) are assessed by JAXPORT directly. Charge details can be found on their website: https://www.jaxport.com/security/twic.
- Third Party Vehicle Release: You may make arrangements to contract an approved third party company to deliver or retrieve your vehicle from the terminal on your behalf. All fees charged by the party you have contracted to provide this service are payable directly to the contracted party.
- Extra Cargo: Customs requires you declare all items within your vehicle that are not part of the vehicle. In other words any vehicle found to contain undeclared cargo will be subject to $285 extra cargo fee. We highly recommend you do not ship any items within your vehicle. Restricted items include but are not limited to car seats, jumper cables, tool boxes, etc.
- Additional Vehicle Insurance: Vehicles less than 5 years old: $25 per $1000 declared value.
- Vehicle must contain no more than a 1/4 tank of gas (to emphasize there will be a charge if the vehicle has more than 1/4 tank of fuel).

- Sail date from SJU to Jacksonville.
- EIN # (Obtain at http://www.irs.gov.).
Secondly the Paperwork needed
- Copy of Title, front and back (or authorization from the Financial Institution, if financed). All vehicles with a lien need the original letter from the bank. Police will not accept a copy.
- A signed Sworn Declaration must be included and stamped by a lawyer/notary licensed in Puerto Rico, indicating:
- Reason why the vehicle is being shipped.
- Authorizing SSR or its affiliates to export the vehicle.
- Vehicle Identification (make, model, year, VIN) and
- If owner is not present to deliver, authorizing person present.
- Clear enlarged copy of the owner’s driver’s license.
- Vehicle Registration.
- Certificate from of Motor Vehicles indicating vehicle is free of fines (valid 3 calendar days) for $11.00. Must have signature of DTOP/DISCO authorized personnel, seal, and $2.00 Voucher Trauma Code 0842 from the Internal Revenue Department (Colecturia).
- Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate from Police Department, Division of Stolen Vehicles.
- $10.00 voucher from Internal Revenue Department (Colecturia). We do not accept stamps
- Receipt from pressure washing vehicle (motor, undercarriage, exterior).
- “Certificate of No Debt” from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Automobile Accident Compensation Administration (ACAA).

- Inspection: Agents from the Police Department will physically inspect all units. Owner of vehicle, or authorized person to ship unit, should not travel out of Puerto Rico, until the unit has been approved by the Police and Agriculture Department. This approval is given the day of the unit’s departure. As a result SSR Logistics is not responsible for any changes made by the governmental entities.
